Maalox Plus Simethicone suspension is a lemon swiss creme flavoured antacid for symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with the diagnosis of peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic eosophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, heartburn or hiatal hernia. As antiflatulent to alleviate the symptoms of gas, including postoperative gas pain. In simple words, it is used to treat the symptoms of too much stomach acid such as stomach upset, heartburn and acid ndigestion. It is also used to relieve symptoms of extra gas such as belching, bloating, and feelings of pressure/discomfort in the stomach/gut. Simethicone helps break up gas bubbles in the gut. Aluminum and magnesium antacids work quickly to lower the acid in the stomach. Liquid antacids usually work faster/better than tablets or capsules.

This medication works only on existing acid in the stomach. It does not prevent acid production. It may be used alone or with other medications that lower acid production (including H2 blockers such as cimetidine/ ranitidine and proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole).

What Maalox Plus is and what it is used for?

Maalox Plus contains three different medicines:

• The first two medicines are called dried aluminium hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called antacids
• The other medicine is called simeticone. It belongs to a group of medicines called anti-foaming agents

Maalox Plus is used for:

• The relief of indigestion (dyspepsia)
• Heartburn
• Wind (flatulence)

Maalox Plus works by lowering the amount of acid in your stomach. The anti-foaming agent in Maalox Plus helps to remove gas from your stomach.

Each 5ml of the suspension contains Dried aluminium hydroxide gel 230mg, Magnesium hydroxide 200 mg and Simeticone 25 mg. It also contains of Domiphen bromide 0.42mg as preservative.

Directions

2-4 teaspoonfuls, 4 times a day, taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by physician.

Route of administration: Oral

Warnings

Do not take more than 16 teaspoonfuls in a 24-hour period nor use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks nor use if you have kidney disease except under the advice and supervision of a physician.
